Rend The Heavens was started in 1999 at a missionary base in Montana. Back then it was myself (Aaron Sternke), my wife Jillian, and our good friends Chris Campbell and Dwight Lindley. Dwight moved on in 2000, and Chris stayed with Rend The Heavens as lead guitarist until 2002.
Over the years we’ve seen amazing people play huge roles in what Rend The Heavens is all about, including Jillian Sternke (BGVs, 1999-2002), Shane Lunsford (bass, 2000-2002), Dustin Secrest (drums, 2000-2001), Russ Mottram (drums, 2001-2002), Bridget Kempers (keys, 2000-2002), Toby Sturgill (keys, 2006-2007), and Luke Simpson (drums, 2007-2010). We love all of you and you will always be a part of us!
Rend The Heavens NOW is Aaron Sternke (guitars, keys, vocals), Sarah Hellems (guitars), and Matt Hellems (bass). Most of the time, we also play with our good friend Grahm Doughty on drums!
We’ve released 5 albums over the years. (Visit our discography page to learn more about each album!) Though each album is different, the theme of our band, as well as our whole purpose and mission has always been and will always be to worship God, honestly and with our whole heart. “In Spirit and in Truth”. We want to write songs that evoke deep emotions, we want to stir up places in people’s hearts that pull them toward God. We want to awaken things in people that only God’s love can satisfy.
If you know us, you know that we use 1 John 3:2 quite a bit as sort of our “key verse”. “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” So seeing Christ is what makes us like Him. This is what we hope to do with our music – to open people’s eyes to Jesus.
We finished our latest full-length album Dreaming Of Eternity in May 2012. This album has been the culmination of many, many years of inspiration and hard work, and we believe it is by far our best work. We hope you buy it and love it!
Thanks for reading about what we’re all about! We hope that we can inspire you and encourage you for years to come.
