1999

This was the album that started it all… Before we were even a “band”, when we were just kids with big ideas in our heads about new music, new ways to worship God, longing for authenticity, longing for something real. We had almost no filter… everything we felt and wanted to experience was, without reservation, poured into this record. We called the record “Rend The Heavens” and later named the band after the album.
It was our first album, our first foray into recording anything. We didn’t really know what we were doing, technically or creatively. But in the end it didn’t matter. We were full of zeal and passion, and even through the lackluster production, that feeling came through (maybe because of it, in some ways). “Rend The Heavens” was packed with fifteen songs of widely varying genres, from hard rock to mellow acoustic to melodramatic ballads, all themed around experiencing God deeply.
For a first-time listener, especially a young person, this record may sound musically dated, and quite different from what we’re doing now. But for us, and for those who were there at the time, this is always who we’ve been, this is always what we’ve been about. The spirit of this album is something that was very real, and is living on still in the music we make today.
